“Martelo is the name given to a movement of capoeira, which is performed by lifting up the leg while the body is leaning to the side or back, striking with the top of the foot.
The main targets are the ribs or the head and are attacked from the side.”
The literal translation to the word is "hammer." I have heard multiple mestres say that it is one of the strikes in capoeira that is especially powerful and needs to be respected.
